Covid-19 School Update
I hope all your families are well. This is a challenging time for us all. It is a challenge we can meet and defeat if we follow the H.S.E guidelines and learn from the experiences of Italy.
Through video links we have held a Board of Management meeting and a Teaching staff meeting in St. Rynagh’s N.S.
We have decided on a plan to provide class based learning platforms for our pupils. We do not wish to put any pressure on families to maintain classroom levels of school work or classroom levels of concentration. This is a different time so we will learn differently.
Getting your child’s school books.
Teachers are preparing your child’s school books in an individual stack in the school hall this weekend. Every class will have a section of the hall and every student will have their stack of books in that section. One adult is invited in on Monday 23rd March to collect the books.
Social distancing will be observed. The collectors will enter the hall one at a time through one door and exit through another door.
Times will be given for each class. If you have more than one child in the school you can collect at whatever time best suits you. If you choose not to collect any books that is ok. Please try to keep to the times provided. If you cannot we will still accommodate you.
The times are:-
- 9 .00 – 9.30 a.m. Junior Infants
- 9.30 – 10.00 a.m. Senior Infants
- 10.00 – 10.30 a.m. First Class
- 10.30 – 11.00 a.m. Second Class
- 11.00 – 11.30 a.m. Third Class
- 11.30 – 12.00 noon 4th Class
- 2.00 – 2.30 p.m. 5th Class
- 2.30 – 3.00 p.m. 6th Class
Class Based Learning Platform
St. Rynagh’s N.S. teachers will be using Edmodo to deliver class based learning.
Teachers will post the content once a week.
There is sufficient classwork for 1 to 2 hours of good quality school work daily.
The learning is designed to be completed by the student and corrected by a parent or caregiver.
Nobody should stress over the material or the platform. Every family situation is different so every family will organise themselves differently to complete the work.
Have a routine every day and include the schoolwork in your routine.
We are fortunate that the weather is improving so get outside and enjoy exercise every day.
School work is only a part of what we need to learn. Use this time to develop skills, such as cooking from cutting vegetables to preparing and serving dinner. Work in the garden, this is the sowing season. Learn to use a needle and thread, paint a wall or mop the floor.
Accessing the class based learning on Edmodo.
The teachers will log in as teachers and create a class. Each class will have a code. The class and the code will be on the school website from Tuesday 24th March.
Students can log in as students and using the code access the material their teacher has posted.
I will also post on Edmodo my class code is fjj3pr.
Be patient trying to use the technology it is a skill like all others, some find it easy, others need to try a few time to get it up and running.
My father is 85. He talks about The Emergency in Ireland during the Second World War. That was a unique time in his life. This is a unique time in our lives. We need to be as active as possible within the confines of social distancing and make this unique time as positively character forming as possible for our children. That is our challenge.
Go raibh maith agaibh.
