Dear Parents,

We have enclosed an information leaflet from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment entitled “Your Child and Standardised Testing” with your child’s report. The test results are indications of achievement and they are used by the school to inform our teaching and the children’s’ learning.

Our target has been and remains to improve each child’s score. If you are talking to your child about their score please

  • Talk about the score in a positive manner, encouraging your child to see this year’s score as a score they can maintain or increase next year.
  • Talk about the score in the overall context of the school report and discourage any anxiety in your child about the standard score.
  • Discourage comparisons between children including siblings.

The scores are particularly used by the teacher your child will have next year to inform their teaching. For further information you can look up ncca.ie or contact the school.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yours faithfully,

Fergal McMahon,
Principal.
